Audience with Queen Victoria KS2

What was it like to be Queen of the largest empire the world had ever seen? In this engaging educator-in-role session, pupils meet Queen Victoria and discover the story of her life, from her lonely childhood to her long reign as monarch.

Through stories and discussion, pupils learn about Victoria’s large family, her husband Prince Albert, her visits to Burghley House and her connections with the Cecil family. They also explore how Britain changed during her reign, including developments in industry, society and the growing influence of the British Empire.

Pupils are encouraged to ask questions, helping them to find out more about Queen Victoria, her family and life in Victorian Britain.

What pupils will do

• Meet Queen Victoria through an educator-in-role experience.
• Learn about her childhood, family and life as monarch.
• Hear about her visits to Burghley House and links to the Cecil family.
• Explore how Britain changed during the Victorian period.
• Ask questions and take part in discussion throughout the session.

What to expect

• Takes place in a classroom-style learning space.
• Delivered in groups of up to 30 pupils.
• The session lasts approximately 45 minutes.
• Led by a costumed educator portraying Queen Victoria.
• A mainly seated, discussion-based session with opportunities for pupils to ask questions throughout.
• Costume and music help create an immersive atmosphere.
• The session can be adapted to suit pupils' knowledge, confidence and engagement.
• The session is delivered at an age-appropriate level for Key Stage 2 pupils.

• The learning space is level access.
• Toilets are located nearby.
• Easy access to outdoor space is available should a pupil need time away from the activity with an appropriate adult.
• The educator can adapt both the content and delivery to suit the needs of the group.
