Meet William Cecil KS4

How did William Cecil become one of the most influential figures in Elizabethan government? In this introductory classroom session, pupils examine Cecil’s political career, his relationship with Queen Elizabeth I and the role he played in shaping policy throughout her reign.

Using an illustrated presentation and historical evidence, pupils explore Cecil’s family connections to the Tudor dynasty and consider how advisers, ministers and political relationships influenced decision-making at court. The session provides essential contextual knowledge for the remainder of the programme.
