About this package

Bring Victorian history to life through a full-day learning experience set within the historic surroundings of Burghley House. Designed for Key Stage 2 pupils, this curriculum-linked programme explores the life and reign of Queen Victoria, the changing role of monarchy and the experiences of people living and working in Victorian Britain.
Queen Victoria visited Burghley House twice in her lifetime – first as a young princess and later as queen – making Burghley a unique setting for exploring Victorian history. Throughout the day, pupils meet Queen Victoria through an educator-in-role session, discover the lives of servants working below stairs, investigate Victorian artefacts and enjoy traditional parlour games played by Victorian families.
A guided tour of Burghley House allows pupils to follow in Queen Victoria's footsteps and explore the rooms, collections and stories connected to her visits.
Working in rotation groups, every pupil takes part in each learning session, discovering how different people experienced Victorian Britain. From royal visits and family life to servants' work and everyday objects, pupils gain a rich and memorable insight into the Victorian era.
