Kintsugi Workshop

Explore the traditional Japanese art of Kintsugi which embraces imperfection and celebrates repair

Kintsugi is an ancient art form that celebrates the Japanese philosophy of the beauty of imperfection and the impermanence of things. The process involves repairing broken pottery with lacquer dusted or mixed with powdered gold, silver, or platinum. The breakages and repair are treated as part of the history of an object, highlighting the cracks and symbolising fragility, strength and beauty.

During this three-hour workshop experienced Kintsugi practitioner Jurga Villimaite will introduce you to the principles and methodology of Kintsugi. Gain insights into the profound history and beautiful philosophy behind the art form.

You’ll have the chance to choose from a selection of broken ceramics to work on yourself. Jurga will guide you step-by-step through the process, using adapted techniques to create completed pieces to take home and treasure for years to come.

No previous experience or special skills are needed to take part and enjoy this mindful, creative experience.
