Sounds of the 40s in the Gardens
Join us for a nostalgic journey into the golden era of the 1940s
Set against the beautiful backdrop of Burghley’s Sculpture Garden, enjoy an afternoon of timeless tunes performed by a fabulous vintage vocalist. Immerse yourself in the spirit of 1940s Britain with hits from the likes of the Andrews Sisters, Vera Lynn, and Ella Fitzgerald, along with some lesser-known gems. Bring the whole family along to soak up the charming atmosphere and let the music transport you to a bygone era.
During your visit take in the beauty of the Gardens in full summer bloom or head to Hide & Secrets with the little ones for an outdoor adventure. The Gardens and Adventure Play are open from 10am to 5pm with performances from our 1940s vocalist between 12 noon and 4pm on both days.
Pimm's Picnic Box
Make your afternoon extra special with a Pimm's Picnic Box, perfect for enjoying as you unwind to the sounds of the 40s in the Gardens.
Each box includes a trio of mini rolls, a sausage roll and cheese twist, Caesar salad pot, crisps, a chocolate brownie, bottled water, and a can of Pimm's served with lemon, strawberry, orange and mint. View menu

Refresh and relax
Treat yourself to a refreshing soft drink, a barista-made coffee, or a delicious iced coffee as you relax and enjoy the live jazz in the Sculpture Garden.
Our converted Horse Box will also be serving a tempting selection of sweet and savoury snacks.
You'll find us open from 12 noon to 3pm, right next to the music stand.

Please feel free to bring your own chairs/picnic blankets to make yourself comfortable. We kindly request no gazebos.
Accessibility | The Gardens are mostly accessible to wheelchair users but please be aware that the paths are gravel and some of the open grassed areas are undulated without pathways.
Inclement weather | In the event of inclement weather, our Sounds of the 40s afternoon will go ahead, so pack and extra layer or waterproof if needed.
Dogs | Dogs other than assistance dogs, are not permitted in the Gardens. We kindly request that support dogs wear their coloured harness or jacket.
