Treasury Exhibition: Flowers in Art

Get up close to fascinating works of art from Burghley's Collections

The Treasury Exhibition offers a rare opportunity to see fascinating items from Burghley’s treasured Collections up close. Many of these objects are usually kept in the archives or private family apartments, while others, though displayed in the State Rooms, may go unnoticed among the House’s many remarkable treasures. This annual exhibition highlights individual pieces, allowing visitors to appreciate their intricate details and uncover their stories.

2025 Treasury Exhibition: Flora in Art at Burghley

Flowers have always featured at Burghley House - they are literally everywhere. Floral elements appear in its architecture, intricately tooled book bindings, and finely carved woodwork adorning doorways and fireplaces. Paintings feature flowers, sometimes rich with hidden symbolism, while porcelain, ceramics, textiles, and furniture showcase exquisite floral designs through marquetry, inlay, and weaving.

For generations, members of the Cecil family have collected floral-inspired pieces, reflecting their appreciation of nature’s beauty. This year’s Treasury Exhibition brings together an eclectic selection of floral decoration from across the Collections which celebrate the enduring beauty of flowers.

The Treasury Exhibition is located in The Brewhouse and entry to the exhibition is included in your House Admission Ticket.
